Tropical Storm Ernesto Could Postpone some Weddings This Weekend

A Tropical Storm can mess up weddings. Written by: Vin Crosby August 21, 2006

Tropical Storm Ernesto is going to bring potential wash out conditions for wedding activity this weekend in the mid Atlantic region of the country. The storm as of Tuesday morning was in between Cuba and south Florida and starting to strengthen. It should start moving north today and track from south to north-northeast right through Florida. Most models bring Tropical Storm Ernesto off shore of Georgia and South Carolina Thursday morning bringing it north passing just west of Myrtle Beach South Carolina Thursday night. At this point is could become a weak hurricane. The worst side to be on a hurricane or tropical storm is to the right of the center. This is where you could get some minor storm surge. Its very little with weak hurricanes and tropical storms but a 1-3 foot rise in water level is not out of the question. By Friday morning this system should continue its northward track into the Piedmont of North Carolina. Tropical Storm Ernesto could pass in between Winston Salem and Raleigh which would be a terrible scenario for rehearsal dinners Friday night around the Research Triangle. As with any tropical system making land fall the heavy rains with flooding will be a major issue. 4-8" of rain is an at least mark with higher levels very possible. Any wedding plans around the Blue Ridge park way in Virginia for Saturday may be in jeopardy of postponement. Friday night through Saturday morning rains could get some enhancement from the mountains and 5-15" of rain could fall sparking flash flooding conditions. All this mess will move slowly north Saturday afternoon. Weddings Saturday located in and around the following areas should monitor this closely: Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Clarkeston, Zannesville, Alexandria, and New York City. Very heavy rains could be around these areas and surrounding areas. Isolated thunderstorms are a possibility too. This could make a mess for wedding hair styles! On Sunday the areas to watch will be: Erie, Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Detroit, Toledo, even over to as far as South Bend, Indiana showers could be felt from the remnants of Ernesto.

Don't take Tropical Storms lightly. Some of the biggest flooding disasters have occurred due to Tropical storms especially watch out in the Appalachian mountain areas. East of the track of the center along the I95 corridor there will be potential for quick bursts of severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.
